The growing awareness of the fact that our planet's resources are not inexhaustible, has initiated the spread of good practices to reduce waste in every sector. From the food we eat to the water we drink to the energy sources we use, we are involved firsthand in contributing as individuals, families, companies and countries.
Alongside the waste, the other topic of global interest in these months is the pollution given by the plastics that grip our seas and rivers. The invasion of microplastics has also affected the food we eat, becoming one of the main themes for every agenda of the future.
The EU has decreed the ban on the marketing of disposable glasses, plates and cutlery since January 2021, however no limitation has been imposed for plastic bottles and other containers that represent the majority of plastic waste.
In Europe the goal for 2025 is the recycling of 50% of the plastic waste produced, however this objective seems insufficient since only in Italy the consumption of only plastic bottles dedicated to water is around 11 billion pieces, to which 1 billion bottles for drinks must be added.
Attempts to produce compostable plastic (PLA) or bioplastic bottles have been in place for several years: bioplastics are made from corn starch or agar agar seaweed or sugar cane and have the advantage of being disposed of in organic waste. However, the production process still has high costs and the recovery chain for the management of 100% vegetable bottles would still be absent, undermining the efforts of the producers.
The reduction of plastic bottles currently passes through personal and corporate responsibility. In the wake of this commitment, we have chosen to discourage the use of small bottles and plastic glasses in the companies during work, equipping each meeting room with a glass carafe with a silicone cap and each person with a personalized aluminum flask.
Every sip of water is a precious commodity and we believe it should be treated with care.
